2 City War Dead Burials This week

Funeral services will be held this week for two Syracusans, who bodies were among the honored war dead recently returned from overseas. The are Pvt. James, A. Pioli, 22, son of Joseph Pioli, of 112 Henderson st., and Pfc. Millard C. Buttel, Jr., 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Millard C. Buttel, Sr., of 165 Midland av. The body will arrive in Syracuse tomorrow afternoon accompanied by a military escort. Friends may call form 7 to 10 p.m. tomorrow and from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Thrusday. A graduate of Eastwood High School, Pfc. Buttel entered service Oct. 10, 1944. He was sent overseas with the 24th Division, Infantry, after training at Macon, Ga. He was killed in action May 10, 1945, at Davao on the Island of Mindinao. Pfc. Buttel was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. Surviving, besides his parents, are his paternal grandfather, George P. Buttel; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Clair E. Van Patten. The body will arrive in Syracuse tomorrow afternoon for services at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Goddard and Crandall funeral home. The Rev. Nicholas Titus of Eastwood Baptist Church will officiate. Eastwood Post, American Legion, will hold military services in Fayetteville Cemetery.
