Lt. Col. Robert B. "Westy" Westbrook Jr was one of the greatest fighter pilots of World War II. He was a member of the 339th Squadron and became the leading ace of the 13th AAF. In battles from Borneo to Guadalcanal he shot down twenty Japanese fighter planes. In December of 1943 he shot down six Japanese planes in a three day span over Rabaul.
He lost his life when he was shot down on a mission in the South Pacific. His remains were never recovered.
