Toledo Chronicle, Toledo IA, 04Sep1913 - Death of Mrs Sarah Berger Funk - Sarah Berger Funk was born in Mt Pleasant, Pa., August 16th, 1935, and died in Toledo, Ia., August 27th, 1913, at the age of seventy-eight years and 11 days. She was a granddaughter of the Rev Christian Berger, one of the early ministers of the United Brethren church in western Pennsylvania. She was reared in a Christian home and at an early age identified herself with the United Brethren church, of which her parents were members, and of which she remained a loyal and useful member throughout all her life. She loved the place of public worship and her place was never vacant when she was able to attend. Her example and devotion to church attendance are notable and deserving of imitation. She was united in marriage with John Funk in Pennsylvania in 1860. There they resided on a farm for ten years, when they sold their home and removed to Cass county, Missouri, where they opened up a large farm, and where they continued to live till the death of Mr Funk in 1867. In 1890 Mrs Funk came to Toledo to make her home with her brother, G. M. Berger, where she has since had her residence, except for about two years, which she spent with a sister in California. She had two brothers and one sister. One brother, J. W. Berger, died in Oakland, California, twenty-two years ago, and her sister, Mrs L. B. Dearborn, in the same city in 1898. She is survived by one brother, G. M. Berger, with whom she has so long lived as a member of his family. The funeral of Mrs Funk was held on Friday afternoon of last week at the home of her brother, being conducted by her pastor, the Rev O. O. Inman, assisted by a former pastor, Dr. M. R. Drury, who paid a brief tribute to her character and life, based upon his own personal knowledge of her many virtues. The pall bearers were P. K. Rebok, M. Hoover, G. W. Westfall, C. R. Ebersole, E. M. Robson and C. A. Benson. Interment was at Woodlawn cemetery.
