My great aunt, Ruth Nellie Cowles was the first born daughter of Bessie Mae Patterson Cowles and Henry Rensselaer Cowles. At a young age she moved with her family to Beltrami, Polk, Minnesota where she attended school. Her siblings were: Roland John (1903-1921), Dorothy Ellen (1907-1975), Blanche Mae (1909-1973), Margaret Irene (1912-1986) and William Patterson Cowles (1917-1983). Ruth was married three times, the first being to Harold Young with whom she had a daughter, Evalyn Ruth Young. Her second husband was Raymond Andrew List and together they had three daughters: Marilyn, Eleanor, and Carolyn. Ruth's third and final husband was Carl Van Cleave and they lived in St. Paul, Minnesota.
