U.S. Congressman, U.S. Senator. He graduated from Cornell College, in 1898, from the law department of the University of Iowa, in 1899, was admitted to the bar in 1899 and commenced practice in Algona, Iowa. He served as a Second Lieutenant in the 52nd Infantry, Iowa National Guard, (1900-02), was city clerk of Algona, (1900-04) and as prosecuting attorney of Kossuth County, (1909-13). In 1919, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-sixth Congress and to the next five succeeding Congresses, serving until 1931. He was then elected as a Republican to the United States Senate, serving (1931-37). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law at a firm that his son, L. Call Dickinson.
