Political figure. Named in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest serving elected mayor in the U.S., Frank E. Rodgers was the mayor of Harrison, N.J. (pop. 15,000) for 48 years, from 1946 until 1994. Entering politics in the 1930's, he was a town councilman for 10 years before interrupting his career to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. His long tenure as mayor began after the war, and continued until declining health precipitated his retirement at age 84 in 1994. In addition to his mayoral duties, Rodgers had also served in the N.J. State Senate and as Hudson County Clerk. Local artery Frank E. Rodgers Blvd. was named in honor of the legendary Hudson County Democrat, who was 90 years old at the time of his death.
