Harl S. Day, 79, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., former president of Standard Steel Works in North Kansas City, died June 7, 1991, at a hospital in Fort Lauderdale.

Mr. Day was president of the company from 1958 until he retired in 1970. Earlier he was a district manager for Butler Manufacturing Co. He graduated from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and retired from the military in 1959 as a Naval Reserve commander. He was a former member of the Kansas City Club, Blue Hills Country Club and Westminster Congregational Church.


He was born in La Porte, Ind., and lived in Rensselaer, Ind., before moving to Kansas City, where he lived most of his life. He moved to Fort Lauderdale 21 years ago. Survivors include his wife, Clara Day of the home; a son, William S. Day, San Diego; three daughters, Virginia, Lee's Summit, Marcia, Columbia, and Sandra of Kansas City; a brother, retired Marine Col. Merrill M. Day, San Diego; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Fred Hunter Chapel, Fort Lauderdale; cremation. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
