She was born March 11, 1925, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Walter S. F. and Mary A. (Beyer) Kane. A graduate of Immaculata High School, she worked in the Transportation Office at Ft. Leavenworth. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and was active in the Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella, as well as St. John Hospital Guild. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Friendship Club.
An avid bowler and golfer, Mrs. Hathorn was a member of LCBA and enjoyed traveling to several national tournaments with her teammates. She and her friends also met weekly at the Senior Center to play cards. Mushroom hunting was a special hobby she shared with her husband.
She married Earl R. “Buddy” Hathorn on Jan. 25, 1947. He preceded her in death on April 22, 1992. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Walter Jr. and John Kane and sister, Mary Margaret Zimmerman.
Survivors include two sons, Ron (Cathy Crispino) of Lawrence and Ken of Overland Park.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday Oct. 21, 2011 at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home, with Rev. David McEvoy, O. Carm., officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A light lunch will be served at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to St. Joseph Church, Immaculata High School or Odyssey Hospice sent in care of the funeral home.
