U.S. Congressman. Immigrating to the United States with his parents, he engaged in mercantile pursuits and later in agricultural pursuits in Iowa. Moving to Missouri, in 1862, he was ordained as a minister and had a congregation in Cainsville, Missouri. He was a member of the Missouri State House of Representatives, (1870-74, 78-80). In 1881, he was elected as a Greenbacker to the Forty-seventh Congress, serving until 1883. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed ministerial duties and engaged in agricultural pursuits until hisj death at age 73.
