U.S. Congressman. Moving to Natchez, Mississippi, he taught school, studied law, was admitted to the bar 1842 and commenced to practice law. Moving to Missouri, he was a member of the Missouri State House of Representatives, (1867-69) and engaged in farming. In 1881, he was elected as a Greenbacker to the Forty-seventh Congress, serving until 1883. An unsuccessful for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
