Son of Nathan Gallup (1801-1878) and "Sally" Sarah Archelus Hall Gallup (1804-1843).

Brother of Julia A Gallup (died in infancy), Eliza A Gallup Starkweather, Emma Gallup Sprague, Nathan Gallup (1829-1902), Lucian Gallup , George B Gallup, Horace H Gallup, John Dale Gallup.

Wife of Fannie E Bemis Gallup (1841-1908).
Father of Estella F Gallup Abell (1860-1923), Charles C Gallup (1864-1908) and Frank H Gallup (1869-1943).

His mother Sally dies when he is a child about 9 years old. That same year his father remarries Esther Gallup. He lives in Windham all of his life. In 1860 he marries Fannie Bemis Gallup. They have three children. He is a farmer, a teamster, and the driver of a delivery wagon. He was drafted into the Union Army but I cannot find any record of mustering in or out. His father dies when James is about 68. James dies at about 78 years old. He was staying with his daughter Estella in Stonington. His funeral was at his son Frank's house in Willimantic.

NOTE: Nathan Gallup (1763-1829) and Zeruiah Gallup Gallup (1767-1838) were James' GRANDPARENTS, not parents.
