Mr. Crockett Huddle died last Friday. He was buried at Pine Grove* on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Four preachers presided: Rev. J. B. Staley of Max Meadows, Rev. Jack Wyrick of Tazewell Circuit, Rev. M. D. Huddle of Cripple Creek and Rev. W. L. Vernon.
Mr. Huddle had not been very well all winter but took worse suddenly about a week ago.

A large crowd attended the funeral of Mr. Crockett Huddle at Groseclose Chapel. There was a steady downpour of rain and the road was all but impassable.

Joseph Crockett Huddle was born Sept. 6, 1853 and departed this life Feb. 5, 1937, making his stay here 83 years, 4 months, 29 days. He was the oldest child of Peter and Sallie Staley Huddle. His sister, Mary Jane, preceded him to the better world. Two brothers, John S. and W. P. survive. On December 25, 1883, he was happily married to Jane Caroline Horne. Six children blessed this union – Myrtle Belle who died at the age of seven; Robert C., Sallie (Mrs. R. M.) Hale, J. Garland, Mrs. Bess L. Neff, all of who survive, and Elbert Ray, who died in infancy.
In 1901 (Nov. 13) he was again happily married to his first wife's sister, Ada Horne. To this union five children were born – Mary Jane, Lewis G., W. Richard, Elizabeth and Charles. Mrs. Huddle and the above named, with twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild survive.
Mr. Huddle joined Asbury Church in 1891 but later, when Groseclose Church was built – which was nearer his home – he transferred his membership there. He was always a faithful and loyal member of his church. His faith and interest increased until his death, he being always ready to do his part in order that the church might prosper.
As a citizen, he was thoughtful of others. He never turned the poor away from his door. The community has lost a good citizen, the church a loyal and faithful member and the home an affectionate husband and father.
The pall bearers were John, Ray and Fred Huddle, Lewis Crockett Hale, Lewis Miller, Worley Hushour, J. W. Bartee and Garnett Whalen.
The flower bearers were Clara, Wanda, Frances and Lewis Crockett Huddle, Mrs. John E. Huddle, Mrs. Fred Huddle, Annie Belle Hale, Jewelle Newland and Mrs. Steele Horne.
Visitors in the home were Rev. W. P. Huddle, Staunton, Va.; Mrs. S. H. Auvil and children, Narrows, Va.; Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Poe, Salem; Mr. Charles Hall and son, Salem; Prof. J. Roy Horne, Big Stone Gap; and many others from nearby towns.
The service was conducted by his present pastor, Rev. W. L. Vernon, who was assisted by former pastors, Rev. J. B. Staley, Rev. Jack Wyrick and a Lutheran Minister, Rev. M. D. Huddle.
