Speiden. On Tuesday, April 19, 1898 at 12:35 p.m., Sarah Ann beloved wife of William R. Speiden in the 67th year of her age.
I went to stand when Christ appears
In spotless raiment dressed;
Numbered among His bidden ones
His holiest and best.
I want among the victor throng
To have my name confessed
And hear my Master say at last
Well done, you did your best.
Give Me, Oh Lord thy highest choice
Let others take the rest;
Their good things have no charm for me,
For I have got Thy best.
Funeral from her late residence, 1008 K street southeast on Friday, April 22 at 3:30 p.m. Friends and relatives invited to attend.
The Evening Star, April 28, 1898
In Memoriam
Speiden. In memory of Mrs. Sarah Ann Speiden, wife of William E. Speiden, who closed her quiet and useful life one week ago yesterday, in the midst of the community where she had always lived, and the estimate in which she was held was testified by the many friends who knew and loved her. She leaves in her husband, children and grandchildren who survive her the legacy of a pious life and spotless name. Her last words before her spirit took flight were, "All is well with me." Though she has passed away, it is inspiring to think of the legacy she has left her family and the inheritance she has gained on high.
