Private, Company L, 7th US Cavalry. Killed in action by Sioux Indians at Custer's Last Stand, along with all of the other soldiers in that column.

He enlisted on 1 August 1871 in Chicago, Illinois, listing his previous occupation as Shoemaker. He had gray eyes, light hair, a light complexion and was 5 feet, 6 inches tall. He deserted on 20 April 1872 and was apprehended nine days later. He was killed on Last Stand Hill, along with all of the soldiers of Custer's Column, and was initially buried where he fell. In 1878, the bodies of the soldiers were removed from their field burials and reinterred in a mass grave at the top of Last Stand Hill, where his body remains today. He was not married.
