Private, Company A, 7th US Cavalry. Killed in action by Sioux Indians at the Battle of the Little Big Horn (also known as Custer's Last Stand), along with many of the other soldiers in his column.

He enlisted on 26 November 1872 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, giving his previous occupation as Farmer. He became the company barber. He had blue eyes, brown hair, a fair complexion, and was 5 feet, 11 inches tall. During the battle, he was with Reno's Column, and was killed in the Valley Fight. In 1878, the bodies of the soldiers were removed from their field burials and reinterred in a mass grave at the top of Last Stand Hill, where his body remains today. He was not married. His last name is often spelled as Rowlins and Rawlins.
