Amy P. Friedlander (nee Perez) of Cross River, died Oct. 18. She was 46. Formerly of Penn Valley, Pennsylvania, she volunteered at The Jewish Family Congregation and ran her own business, John Jay Prep, a tutoring service.

"Amy was always cheerful and engaged, and we knew we could always rely on her if we needed an extra batch of cookies or hands," Rabbi Carla Freedman of The Jewish Family Congregation said.

"She was amazing... lively, energetic, motivating," said Marian Vitale of South Salem, whose son Ms. Friedlander tutored. "She was so encouraging and made him feel great about himself."

Ms. Friedlander was a former vice president at the Chase Manhattan Bank in Manhattan, where she managed currency-to-go.com, which provided overnight delivery of foreign currency to travelers, according to a 2000 New York Times wedding announcement. She graduated cum laude from Cornell University and received a master's of business administration degree from the University of Pennsylvania, according to the announcement.

She was the mother of the late Molly and the late Gregory Friedlander.

Ms. Friedlander is survived by her parents, Gary and Roberta (nee Wolfman) Perez; sister Jill Gobora and her husband, Edward; and grandmother Ruth Wolfman.
