Noted French Motion Picture Director. He began his career in 1912. Two years later he moved to the United States where develope his works in silent movies as director and producer. He returned to France in 1928. Among his movies "Le Friquet" (1912), "Le mystère de la chambre jaune" (1914), "The Poor Little Rich Girl" (1917), "Treasure Island" (1920), "The Last of the Mohicans" (1921), "Lorna Doone" (1922) "Aloma of the South Seas" (1926), "Au Nom de la Loi" (1932) "Avec la Sourire" (1936), "Volpone" (1940) and "Impasse des Deux Anges" (1948). He was the father of Motion Picture Director Jacques Tourneur.
