The Rev. Preston Aker for forty-three years a minister of the Christian church, died of heart disease Friday morning at his home, 3920 Terrace street. His body was taken to Missouri City, Mo. Saturday for burial. Although he was 77 years old, the Rev. Aker had enjoyed good health until a few days previous to his death. Wednesday evening he complained of a pain in his heart and told the members of his family that he was going to die. His condtion was not serious, however, until Friday morning, when he became suddenly worse and died before a physician could be summoned. The Rev. Aker was born in Paris, Ky., in 1826 and came to Clay county, Missouri, with his parents two years later. He was one of the early circiut riding ministers of Missouri. He was ordained in 1861 and in company with another minister, Waller by name, he rode on horse-back through Clay, Platte and Clinton counties, preaching in the churches of the Disciples of Christ. He was the organizer and founder of many of the churches of this denomination in these and surrounding counties. During the period of stringent military government in this county in 1862 he was arrested while riding the circuit, but later was released. He was not forced to take the oath of allegiance. He was married in 1845 to Miss Sarah Adams, and in 1871 to Miss Julia Robinson. He is survived by eight children, twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
