Christine Ruth McCullough, 87, former resident of Effingham, died this morning at the Oak Ridge Acres Nursing Home, Hiawatha.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Stanton Chapel. The Rev. Virgil Feerer, pastor of the Hiawatha First Christian Church, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Chris Cassel, pastor of the Farmington Christian Church.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at the Stanton Chapel from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Farmington Christian Church.
Burial will be in the Lancaster Cemetery.
Mrs. McCullough was born Feb. 11, 1894, east of Huron in Atchison County, the daughter of August and Christine Hepner Manthe. She attended Eden and High Prairie schools north of Lancaster. Married Elmer l. McCullough and the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in February of 1962. They farmed in Huron, Lancaster, Highland and Hiawatha areas before moving to the Farmington area in 1943. they moved to Effingham in 1968.
Her husband died Jan 18, 1975 an she moved in 1976 to Hiawatha to be near her daughter there.
She was a member of the Farmington Christian Church and taught junior Sunday School there until 1965; was a member of the Ladies Aid of the church and had served in the past as president secretary and treasure; enjoyed farming and raising flowers.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Edna) Gildhouse, Hiawatha, and Mrs. Velma Rathert, Effingham; two sons, Alan McCullough, Effingham, and Clinton McCullough, 1428 Atchison Street; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Schwarzer, Muscotah; one brother, Albert Manthe, Highland; seven grandchildren.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by one brother. August Manthe, last month.
