Alvin J. Bruvold, 85, of Mondovi, passed away Friday September 12, 2003, at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi.

He was born on June 22, 1918, in the Town of Naples, Buffalo County, Wis., to Albert and Emma (Johnson) Bruvold. He married Elma Quale on Nov. 9, 1940, in Nashua, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II from 1942-1945. He was stationed in the South Pacific. Alvin was employed at Land O Lakes in Mondovi. He moved to California in 1953 and was employed at Douglas Aircraft Co. He returned to Mondovi in 1963 and owned and operated Bruvold’s Furniture Mart until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of Central Lutheran Church, the Mondovi American Legion Post 154 and the Knights of Pythias. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and making strawberry pies.

He is survived by two daughters, Carol (Darnell) Goldsmith of Prescott, Ariz. and Deb Schutz of Fort Wayne, Ind.; three grandchildren, Kelly, Cindy and Shannon; one great grandson, Jared; three sisters, Agnes Kent of Mondovi, Wis., Dolores Bloss of Buffalo City, Wis., and Marjorie (Ray) Christianson of Mondovi, Wis.; one sister-in-law, Margaret Bruvold of Cudahy, Wis.; and one brother in-law, Howard Whipps of Mondovi, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Elmer Bruvold, and one sister Ruth Whipps.

Services will be held on Wednesday Sept. 17, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi, Wis., with Rev. James Tallman officiating. Burial will be at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery of Norden, rural Mondovi. Military rites will be conducted at the grave by the Mondovi American Legion. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home in Mondovi or on Wednesday for one hour before the service at the church.
