John Ball married Margaret Ann Shreve on Jan 10, 1834, District of Columbia. They moved to Washington in 1835 or 1836, and he held several offices under the city government. Later in life he was a merchant and member of the city Council. They returned to Virginia in 1882, where he died January 23, 1889.
