U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Cornell University New York, in 1926 and taught history at Syracuse University, (1926-28) and at the University of Pennsylvania, (1929-31). Moving to Wisconsin, in 1932, he organized the Wisconsin State Federation of Labor, was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, (1937-41) and was an assistant for the War Production Board, Washington, D.C., (1941-44). In 1945, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-ninth Congress, serving until 1947. He was again elected to the Eighty-first Congress, serving (1949-51). After his term, he was special assistant to the Secretary of the Interior, (1951-52) and public relations counselor and lobbyist for the AFL-CIO, Washington, D.C., (1953-79).
