Spanish-American War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the United States Navy during the War with Spain as a Fireman First Class on board the "USS Concord". His citation reads "Following the blowing out of a lower manhole plate joint on boiler B of that vessel, Hull assisted in hauling the fires in the hot, vapor-filled atmosphere, which necessitated the playing of water into the fireroom from a hose." His Medal was awarded to him on December 14, 1898.
