Spanish-American War Medal of Honor Recipient. A native of Denmark, he was issued the award on April 30, 1901 for his actions as a boatswain's mate assigned to the Navy tug USS Wompatuck (YT-27) on June 30, 1898, at the First Battle of Manzanillo, Cuba. After emigrating to the US, he enlisted in the US Navy. Following the Spanish-American War, he was promoted to the rank of boatswain in May 1899, and was promoted to chief boatswain four years later. During World War I, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in July 1918 and the following year he commanded the minesweeper USS Hubbard (SP-416). He retired from the US Navy at the rang of lieutenant commander. His Medal of Honor citation reads: "On board the U.S.S. Wompatuck, Manzanillo, Cuba, 30 June 1898. Serving under the fire of the enemy, Muller displayed heroism and gallantry during this period."
