Suggested edit (Jill Piggott (50667147): Not a correction, but an addition to your page. "Cutbury" has been mistaken for a surname or a male's name and caused outright indignation in some 19th-century genealogists.

1. The original manuscript marriage record identifies her as "Cutbury Gibbs." Transcribed: Massachusetts Marriages, 1695-1910: William Trotter m Cutbury Gibbs, 9 Dec 1652, Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts.

2. Later records identify her as Catherine. For example, after she died, her daughter Sarah married on 25 Nov 1679 in Burlington, NJ. Sarah's mother is identified as Catherine. See New Jersey, County Marriages, 1682-1956.

3. James Savage (you can't make this stuff up) took such umbrage over the name "Cutbury" that he included it in the "Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England showing Three Generations of Those who Came before May, 1692" (pub 1860-62) under "resolute protest of incredul. against the un christian name":

"TROTTER, WILLIAM, Newbury, m. 9 Dec. 1652, Cutbury Gibbs (herein I follow Coffin, with resolute protest of incredul. against the un christian name), had Mary, b. 22 Jan. 1654; Rebecca, 5 July 1655; Samuel, 5 June 1657 ; Abigail, 1 Feb. 1664; Sarah, 3 May 1665" (p 332).

4. The Genealogical Society of Bergen County identifies her in their Family Files as "Cutbury Catherine Gibbs" (p 1542).

Suggested edit Jill Piggott #50667147 (2/27/2021): 1. Correction for BAPTISM - Cutbury was baptized on 11 November 1627 in Hemington, Somerset, England. Her younger sister Catalina (Catherine) was baptized in Bath Abbey on 8 July 1628 and buried in Bath Abbey Cemetery on 10 Oct 1629. The two are easy to conflate because Cutbury's name is sometimes given as Catherine. The July date is widely given as Cutbury's; correcting it here would be a big help. See link to images of the original records below.

2. Correction for PLACE OF DEATH - Woodbridge can't be right. It wasn't founded until June 1669. Previous (merged) memorial gave 7 Jul 1667 in Edison, Middlesex, NJ, which is plausible. (Edison was founded 1651.) But secondary sources are split on whether Cutbury died in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts Bay Colony (where she was married & raised her children) or in New Jersey. The Bergen County Genealogical Society gives her place of death as Newbury, although it has several errors in the record. I can't find an original death or burial record.
