While in that service he fought eighteen battles, and won his way from the rank of midshipman to that of commander-in-chief. He commanded the Macedonian frigate on her trip with provisions, a year since, to the suffering Irish and Scotch. [Washington Union]"
-Published in the Piscataquis (ME) Observer, 22 Feb 1849, p3:∼Received the rank of "Commodore" after fighting for Argentine against Brazil in 1826. Sailed ship for Henry Eckford to Turkey in 1831. Made a trip to Ireland in 1847 with food and supplies for the Irish people during the famine. Every year their is a ceremony at his gravesite in respect for this action. The Commodore married Janet Drake in 1833. (Henry Eckford's Grand daughter)
