Professional Basketball Player. For four seasons (1976 until his death), he played at the shooting guard position in the National Basketball Association with the Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Atlanta Hawks and Utah Jazz. He made his initial mark on the basketball court during his years at Flint Northern High School in Michigan. After receiving an athletic scholarship, he played collegiate basketball at Michigan State University where he achieved All-American honors. Selected by the Philadelphia 76ers as the number 12 overall pick during the 1976 NBA Draft, he totaled 239 career regular season games. During his rookie season (1976-1977), he experienced a run at the NBA Title as Philadelphia reached the NBA Finals. Individually, he produced a career high 1,055 points as he split time between Atlanta and Utah. Furlow was killed when his automobile slammed into a utility pole. It was later revealed that he was under the influence of cocaine and valium.
