Mr. Martin, 89, Hermitage, died Saturday at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. The son of Lorenzo J. and Anna J. Brooks Martin, he was born in Chillicothe.

In 1935, his family moved from Malta Bend to Cross Timbers. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and met Mary Maxine Travis while stationed in New Orleans, La. They were married in 1944. Upon his discharge in 1946, they made their home in Cross Timbers until retiring and moving to Hermitage in 1986.

He was a carpenter and built many homes in the area. He also worked for six years for the Missouri Park Board. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. He taught a Sunday school class for several years at Cross Timbers United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Christian church in Hermitage.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Martin, on Jan. 14, 2005; his brothers, Frank and Lawrence; and his sisters, Edna, June, Mary and Rosie.

Survivors include his daughters, Anna Marie "Cookie" Hawkins and husband Phillip "Doc" of Buffalo and Shirley Jean "Jeanie" Hahn and husband Jim of Warsaw; his granddaughters and their husbands, Cyndi and Greg Davison and Debi and Tony Henderson; his grandsons and their wives, Martin and Pam Hawkins, Jeff and Jacki Edge and James and Sharon Hahn; his great-grandchildren, Cole Reavis, Chastidy Washausen and husband K.J., Dusty Henderson, Carley Hawkins and Maddy Edge; his great-great-granddaughter, Jaycee Spence; and many other family members and friends.

Pastor Patty Case will officiate.
