ANDREW QUERY'S TRAGIC DEATH

Authorities Will Make Careful Examination to Learn If He Was Murdered.

MONEY WAS GONE WHEN FOUND

A Piece of Iron Encased in Rubber Hose was Also Found Lying Near The Body.

Lying in a ditch along Christiana avenue, near the Baltimore and Ohio railroad bridge, No. 2, the lifeless body of Andrew Query, aged 55 years, was found on Saturday morning, by William Gibbons, of No. 1135 Lobdell street. The coroner was notified and his deputy, Harvey Nichols removed the body to the morgue. Yesterday it was claimed by the dead man's son. It was removed to the home of his daughter, at No. 1816 Market street. The funeral will take place Tuesday afternoon, at 3:30 o'clock, and interment will be made at Riverview. The G. A. R. will be in charge.

Circumstances regarding the death of Query, have led to the suspicion that he met with foul play, with robbery as a motive. Query was a pensioner of the government and on last Thursday he received a sum believed to have been $60 as his pension for two months. When he was found there was not a cent in his pockets, and if he ever had the money, no one seems to know what became of it.

With one exception there were no marks of any kind upon the body. The exception was a bruise or scratch upon his face. What aroused suspicion was the finding of a piece of a brake bar, encased in a section of a rubber hose, within a few feet of the dead man's body. This led to the suspicion that the man had been waylaid and robbed.

It was thought he had been struck with the bar and knocked senseless and that his money had been taken from him. His head was in a few inches of water in a ditch along the road. The rest of his body was stretched out along the bank. It was suspected that he had fallen unconscious into the water and drowned before he regained consciousness. The mark upon the face might have been made when he fell or might have been the result of a blow from the rubber encased iron bar.

Query, several years ago, was member of the local police force. Of late he had lived alone in a cabin at the foot of Buena Bista street. How he got to the place where his body was found is not known.
