Son of Ford E. Prettyman and Bessie Morris Prettyman.

John, who resided at 106 Poplar Street, Seaford, Delaware, served as a Corporal with Battery C, 261st Coast Artillery, U.S. Army during World War II.

He enlisted in the Delaware National Guard on January 27, 1941, prior to the war, in Seaford, Delaware. He was noted as being Married.

He was fatally hurt while swimming at Ft. Miles, Delaware City, Delaware on July 10, 1942 and later died at Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D.C.

He had served in the Army for one year and eight months at the time of his death.
