She was an artist who painted for many of the schools in Van Dyke Public Schools. She also served as a volunteer for the USO and American Red Cross. She played piano and violin and attempted tap dancing in her later years.
Relatives described her as a prankster who was known for her great sense of humor, often giving children rides on her blue Cushman Scooter. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and cooking for her family, as well as spending time with them. Family members said she loved all children.
Mrs. Schwalm is survived by her children, Marilyn Kay(Michael) Martin, James Schea and Dr. Allan(Dr. Michelle) Schwalm; brother, Gerald(Patricia) Stanley; brother-in-law, William Sankey; and grandchildren, Dr. James(Amy) Martin, Cameron Schea, Austin Schea & Michael Schwalm.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clayton Schwalm; parents, Joseph & Sabina Stanley; and sister, Angeline Wanda Sankey.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00am Saturday in St. Edmund Catholic Church, Warren. Visitation will be Friday Noon-9pm with a 6pm rosary recital at the funeral home. Additional visitation will be Saturday 10:30-11:00am at the church.
