Sgt. Sam H. Allison U.S.Army, 75 Div. Co.A, 289th. Inf. March 1943, KIA-Feb. 18, 1944, Marie, Belgium. Most of the 75 were very young and most of them did not come back. Sammie was 22 years of age when he was killed in Marie, Belgium in the Battle of the Bulge while securing positions on the other side of the Rhine river that they had successfully crossed. Sammie was buried in a lonely grave in a military cemetary in Henri Chapel, Belgium until 1947. He now rests in the cemetary of the Shooting Creek Church of God in his beloved Clay County, North Carolina, USA. His sister, Hannah A. Monsmet said, "we were proud of Sam, the place he filled in his community and in this great nation of ours. His leaving us left a great empty space in our lives." Sam was the last young man to be KIA from Clay County, giving up his young life for this country, for you and me that we might forever live free. His death came just a short time before the end of the World War II. Thank you Sammie from the bottom of my heart, your brother-in-arms, VietNam 1965-1966. You will never be forgotten.
