Mrs Mae Leonard, 97, 303 Wabash Ave, Wakarusa, died at 10:05 pm Tuesday, Feb 13, at Fountainview Place, Elkhart, where she had been a patient since Jan 23. She had been in failing health several months.

She was born April 13, 1881, in Pomroy, Ohio, the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth (Miller) Fish.

She was married to John Benson Leonard Dec 25, 1903. They owned and operated Leonard Hardware Store in Wakarusa for many years. Mr Leonard died Nov 21, 1955.

Surviving are a son, Owen, Wakarusa; three grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs Nellie Pullins, Akron, Ohio.

A son, Lowell, preceded her in death Aug 21, 1974.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 pm Friday at Lienhart Funeral Home, Wakarusa. The Rev Doug Anderson, pastor of the Wakarusa United Methodist Church of which Mrs Leonard was a member, officiated. Burial was in Olive Cemetery.

Mrs Leonard was a member of Nappanee Order of the Eastern Star and a lifetime member of Wakarusa Searchlight Club.

Memorials may be made to Elkhart County Cancer Society.

Mr and Mrs J B Leonard left Monday noon for Little Hocking, O, called there by the death of Mrs Leonard’s father, Andrew Fish, who has been a patient with heart trouble for several years.

Mrs Leonard has made a number of trips to her parental home the past year on account of the ill health of both her parents.

In December they celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary.

Mr Fish passed away Monday morning at the age of 79 years.

He is survived by the wife, three daughters and one son.
