MARION - James S. Atkinson, 66, died suddenly of a heart attack Friday morning at his home near Rains, eight miles south of Marion. Mr. Atkinson had been in the Mullins hospital with pleurisy and had been carried back to his home and was apparently on the road to recovery when this attack struck him. He was a Master Mason and also a member of the Junior Order and the Woodmen of the World.
He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Stanley Gasque and Mrs. Star Coleman of Marion, Mrs. Tully Dozier, Misses Bernice and Doris Atkinson and Mrs. Willie Shelley of Rains; and one son, Benton Atkinson of Rains.
His wife preceded him to the grave about six years ago.
Mr. Atkinson was a prominent farmer of this county and was a quiet easy going man.
The funeral services were held this morning at Reedy Creek Church six miles below Marion with the Rev. C. W. Hood in charge.
