Funeral services for Vastine Chavis, 89, of Blackville, SC will be held three p.m. Friday, July 18, 2008 at Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston. Burial will be in the Blackville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from one o'clock until the time of the service on Friday. Vastine died on Tuesday, July 15, 2008.
Born in Barnwell County, he was a son of the late Ezra Chavis and Lizzie Nevilles Chavis and was married to the late Desalee Mizzell Chavis. He attended Trinity Baptist Church and was a farmer and a logger.
Survivors include daughters, Martha Lee Dyches and Mary Hutto; sons, Bobby, Clyde, Randy, Lloyd, LeRoy and Abraham Chavis; sisters, Pearl Chavis and Emma Grubbs; brother, Marion Chavis; eighteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
