Annie Lou Auton Bowman, 86, of Taylorsville, passed away Monday morning, Oct. 10, 2011 in the Sterling House in Hickory. Annie was born in Caldwell County on July 17, 1925 to parents Julius Edgar and Fannie Lou Anna Beach Auton. She was a member of Shiloh Lutheran Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Wade Bowman, in 2004, whom she married on October 10, 1942; daughter, Sylvia Ann Bowman Looper, in 1981; six brothers, Glenn, Leonard, Pete, Dave, Clyde, and Troy Auton; and five sisters, Callie Talbert, Nina Reed, Ethel Price, Lois Bumgarner, and Ora Lee Johnson. Those left to cherish her memory include her three sons, James R. Bowman and his wife, Wanda of Lenoir, Dwight E. Bowman and his wife, Martha of Claremont, and Gary Douglas Bowman and his wife, Karen of Bethlehem; two daughters, Barbara Gail Bowman Looper and her husband, Lindsay of Grace Chapel, and Patricia Dawn Bowman Burke and her husband, Quentin of the Ellendale community; two sisters, Jean Spencer and Irene Teeters, both of Caldwell County; 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and two expected great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be conducted Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Bethlehem from 3 to 4:30 p.m. The service will follow at 4:30 p.m. inside the church sanctuary where the Rev. Rosa Erickson will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Annie's sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers, with Rudy and Lindsay Looper, and Quentin Burke serving as honoraries. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Annie's memory to Alexander County Hospice @ 50 Lucy Echerd Lane.
