She was born September 28, 1922 to Henry and Olena (Bolma) Rindahl in Maple Hill Township. She grew up and attended school in Grand Marais. Dorothy worked in Joynes' Department Store and at the Grand Marais Post Office where she met Clarence Krotz. They were married in November of 1946, and they raised their family in Grand Marais. Dorothy and Clarence owned and operated Skyport Lodge for many years.
She was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, and was an excellent seamstress, artist, and grandma. Dorothy also played the piano, organ, accordion, violin, and mouth organ, all by ear, and mostly all old time gospel music. She would have her children sit around and sing with her as she played the songs, and tried to teach them to harmonize.
She is preceded by her parents, husband, Clarence, brothers, Alfred, Oliver, and Harley, and sister, June Christiansen, and grandson, Laetham Sopoci. Dorothy is survived by her, daughters, Ginger (Palmer) Berglund, Kathy (Doug) Finn, and Clarice Krotz all of Grand Marais; grandchildren, Bev Wolke, Dan and Wade Schlienz, Lieschen Schoenert, and Steina Sopoci; 6 great-grandchildren, Sister, Joanne (Paul) Martin; brother, Jim (Margaret) Rindahl; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the 2 PM Service, Monday, October 17, 2011 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
