Michael Shelby Tinkle was the son of Robert Francis Tinkle & Mary Tinkle. He was probably born in Fulton County, AR. He married Phoebe Elizabeth Barnes Wilson Thurlo on Feb 27, 1896, in Ind Co AR. They had 2 children: Paul Cecil Tinkle & Julia Myrtle Tinkle. Mike is buried next to Phoebe in an unmarked grave. Mike, Phoebe, and their children & Phoebe's children by previous marriage, lived next door to Phoebe's mother, Sirena Barnes, near Cushman. A cousin, Audrey McMahan said her mother told her that Mike Tinkle had the bluest eyes she had ever seen.

Mike's father, Robert, & his uncle, Michael, were members of the AR Peace Society in the Civil War. However, later they did fight in the war. The uncle, Michael, is buried at Reeves Cemetery near Melbourne/Guion, AR.
