RUBY JANE O'KELLEY passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 6, 2003 at her home outside of San Antonio. Born in Iowa in 1923, resident of Houston and longtime resident of McAllen, TX after her husband, William Charles O'Kelley (born and raised here in Houston) retired as a Lt. Colonel from the U.S. Army in 1976. The O'Kelleys lived in Texas, Alaska, New Mexico, Maryland, Oklahoma, Korea, Turkey and Japan during their time serving the U.S. Ruby also served in the Civil Air Patrol during WWII and worked at Ellington Air Base and other locations during WWII and the Cold War as a civilian worker. Mrs. O'Kelley died in 1989. Ruby is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Linda of San Antonio and Charles Patrick and Barbara of Houston. Ruby is also survived by beloved granddaughters, Teresa of San Antonio and Ali of Houston as well as several aunts and cousins. Thanks to all friends and family for their support. " Grand mommy, we'll miss you forever." Visitation: Thursday, July 17th, 5-7pm at Sunset Funeral Chapel in San Antonio and graveside services 9am, Friday, July 18th at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Worked for the Civil Air Patrol at the Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois, where she met her husband, LTC (Ret.) William C. O'Kelley. She continued to fly while her husband was overseas during World War II, assisting at Ellington Air Field in Houston, Texas. One of the first American dependents to visit some Japanese villages following World War II.
