Death of Mrs. Wm. M. Groves
Mrs. William M. Groves died Wednesday night at 8 o'clock at her home, 1615
Franklin St., after a week's illness of peritonitis. A son was born to
Mrs. Groves July 3rd, and her condition was favorable until complications
arose. All that medical skill and nursing could do was done, but all to no
avail, and the spirit of the young mother passed away.
Mrs. Groves was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. E.C. Gordon of St. Louis. She
was born September 17, 1885, in Salem, Virginia, but was reared and
educated in Lexington, where her father was the pastor of the Presbyterian
Church for a number of years. She was married to Mr. Groves October 8,
1919, and came with her husband to live among old friends and
acquaintances, loved and respected by all who knew her.
Mrs. Groves is survived by her husband, infant son, parents, and six
brothers and three sisters, as follows: L.C., and E.C. Gordon, Jr., of Fort
Scott, Kans.; Stanley, of British Columbia; Dr. F.C., AL., A.W., Mrs. J.D.
McConkie, and Miss Hattie Gordon, of St. Louis, and Mrs. C.M. Jesperson of
Anniston, Ala.
The funeral services conducted by Rev. J.E. Alexander and Rev. Robert L.
Cowan, will be held from the home this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
