Phyllis was the daughter of Bill BYLAND and Erma NICOLAI. She married Paul BLANKENHORN on September 18, 1948, in Kirksville, Missouri.

She was the mother of two daughters and two sons; she was the grandmother of four.

She gave service to her community as a Camp Fire Girls leader, as a Cub Scout den mother, and as a support mom for Boy Scouts. She worked as a maternity nurse at Osteopathic Hospital in South Bend, Indiana. She enjoyed traveling, singing, and making pickles and candles, and she always looked forward to her annual Christmas open house.
