Nettie May VanAuken was born May 14, 1869 in Boylston, N.Y., the only child of Ira M. and Helen VanAuken. She married Oliver DeLong, November 9, 1887 in Orwell, N.Y., the officiating clergyman being Rev. J.L. Benton.

Her earthly journey was finished July 31, 1930, at her home in Sandy Creek where she had been ill for several months and was cared for with tender devotion by her husband and daughter. The funeral, which was largely attended, was held at the Wesleyan church, Sunday afternoon Aug. 3, conducted by her former pastor, the Rev. Otto M.J. Finch, assisted by her present pastor, Rev. Stanley Lawrence. The text was taken from Luke 12-20, "This Night Thy Soul Shall he Required of Thee". "

At the early age of nine years she was converted, and at fourteen years of age joined the Wesleyan Methodist church and remained a devoted and consistent member throughout her entire life. Her beautiful Christian life had a wonderful influence for good to many other lives. During her long
illness, while we sympathized deeply in her suffering, it was a joy to visit her because each time we looked upon her shining countenance we felt that we had had a glimpse of Heaven in the beautiful smile, which pain, however great, could not banish, as her love and trust in her Heavenly Father were above all else to her. It was said of her by one who knew that "she now has a wonderful mansion in Heaven for she has sent up a lot of beautiful material with which to build it".

Those left to mourn her absence from the earthly home are the husband and daughter, Hazel May Williams, of Cortland, N. Y., and seven grandchildren. One daughter, Ora Helen Hurst, died at her home, in Derry, N.H., Oct. 5, 1929. Sister DeLong will be greatly missed by her neighbors and many friends as well as in the Home and church.

A well loved friend has gone from us to dwell with our Saviour on high. Let us follow the path in which she loved to walk, and meet where there's no broken tie.
