Luther Lott, a PVT in Co E, 7th Regiment, South Carolina Volunteers, died at Richmond, VA on March 15, 1862, in the 24th year of his age. He enlisted in the Confederate service in April 1861. He was a member of the Baptist Church at Dry Creek. His remains were brought to his father's residence and buried by his fellow soldiers on the 23rd.

According to a diary of William Lott, brother to Luther, found in the Edgefield Genealogical Library; Luther was killed during the Civil War in Richmond, VA either April or May of 1862. Actually according to another book, with Civil War deaths, Luther died of disease in Richmond, VA, 1862.
