LANETT — Miss. Bessie Alva Moore, 95, of Lanett died Monday, Nov. 20, 2006 at Lanier Memorial Nursing Home in Valley.
Graveside services are planned for Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 11 a.m. at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Howard officiating.
Miss Moore is survived by her brother, Ralph Moore of Abbeville, Ala.; two sisters-in-law, Helen Moore of Lanett and Louise Moore of Mobile, Ala.; four nephews, Thomas (Jennifer) Moore of Lanett, Gerald (Anne) Moore of Eden, N. C., John Moore of Winfield, Ala. and David Moore of Mobile; and her niece, Judy (Earl) Saunders of Abbeville, Ala.
Born April 3, 1911 in Chambers County, Miss Moore was the daughter of the late Addie Davis Moore and Olin G. Moore. She was a graduate of LaFayette High School and the University of Montevallo, where she received a degree in education. Miss Moore began her teaching career at Waverly School in Chambers County and taught briefly at Rock Springs School. She spent most of her teaching career as a first grade teacher at River View School. Miss Moore retired in 1976, after devoting 45 years of her life to the students of Chambers County. She was an active member of River View Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher before declining health prevented her from attending. She was preceded in death by her sister, Iris Yates, and her brothers, Leroy Moore, William Moore and David Moore.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Chattahoochee Hospice in her memory.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Nov. 21 from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at Johnson Brown Service Funeral Home.
