Alice was a daughter of Benjamin and Phoebe Butler of Monongahela, Pa.

In 1884, at Monongahela, Pa., Rev. S. H. Nesbit presided over the marriage rites of Alice M. Butler to James Edward Cady, son of James and Mary (Peach) Cady.

James and Alice were the parents of eight children: James Edward; Sheridan F; Alice; Edna; John Jay; Charles Jay; George C; and Ruth Cady.
