Edward Vernon "Stub" Merriam, age 89, and a resident of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, died on Thursday, October 13, 2011, at his home in Ocean Springs.

He was born to Edward Justin and Bertha Lora (Field) Merriam, on August 21, 1922 in Mitchell South Dakota. His family moved from South Dakota to Ogden, Iowa in 1926, where he grew to manhood. He was a graduate of Ogden High School.

He was united to marriage to Jacqueline Walton on October 17, 1949 in Florida. To this union were born two children, Edward Vince, and Vickie Eleanor.

Mr. Merriam worked for many years with the space program at Cape Canaveral. He had been a resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast since 1967 and was owner/operator of Biloxi Amusement Park. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a Mason and a Shriner.

Mr. Merriam was preceded in death by his parents, Edward & Bertha Merriam and his wife, Jacqueline Merriam.

He is survived by his children, Edward Vince (Deborah) Merriam of Gautier and Vicki (Cort) Phillips of Waveland; his sister, Mildred Shoeman of Madrid, Iowa; his granddaughter, Tanya Merriam of Ocean Springs; his great grandchild, Alexandra Bosarge of Ocean Springs, and an expected great grandchild, Sofia Marie Reynolds.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at 2:00pm at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Ocean Springs.
