Gary Karl Swanson – Born December 12, 1955, in Taipei, Taiwan, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Gary was a resident of Mobile since 1967. He attended Dodge Elementary School, Azalea Road Junior High School, W.P. Davidson High School, and graduated in 1974 from Murphy High School. Gary loved God and accepted Christ as his Savior on February 23, 1994. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church Tillman's Corner. Gary was a talented musician and played the drums in several local bands and church orchestras. He loved skateboarding, surfing, antique cars, and Crimson Tide football, and shared this enthusiasm...
Gary Karl Swanson – Born December 12, 1955, in Taipei, Taiwan, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Gary was a resident of Mobile since 1967. He attended Dodge Elementary School, Azalea Road Junior High School, W.P. Davidson High School, and graduated in 1974 from Murphy High School. Gary loved God and accepted Christ as his Savior on February 23, 1994. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church Tillman's Corner. Gary was a talented musician and played the drums in several local bands and church orchestras. He loved skateboarding, surfing, antique cars, and Crimson Tide football, and shared this enthusiasm with his son, Zach. He especially loved spending time with Zach and his beloved wife, Karen. Gary had a kind heart and gentle spirit, and loved animals. He worked in residential construction for the past 30 years, and owned GK Swanco, Inc. Gary loved food and was a talented chef. A loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and dear friend, he will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carolyn Whitten and First Sergeant Harold Ford Swanson. Survivors include his wife, Karen Foster Swanson; his son, Zachary Matthew Swanson; brother, Mark (Jennifer) Swanson; sister, Kris Hawkins; his father's wife, Cathy Swanson; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Carolyn and Bubba Foster; brother-in-law, Kevin (Jana) Foster, beautiful nieces, Sarah, Rebecah, Jordyn, and Lauryn Grace; his dog, Samson; his brother's pets, who will miss him very much; other family members and many friends. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home on Monday, October 17, 2011, at 12 Noon. Visitation will be Sunday, October 16, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery West. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Tillman's Corner, 5660 Three Notch Rd., Mobile, AL 36619, or Cottage Hill Baptist Church, 4255 Cottage Hill Rd., Mobile, AL 36609.
