Homer (CNS) – Dr. Charles Edwin Johnson, 84, dean of physicians in this area, died unexpectedly at 7:30 p. m. Saturday (May 18, 1957) at an out of town hospital where he was taken Wednesday. The body is being brought to the Jeanes Funeral Home. Arrangements are incomplete.
Dr. Johnson received his 50-year pin from the Illinois Medical Society in 1948 and a 50-year pin from the Homer Masonic Lodge in 1949. He had practiced in Homer since 1919 and was widely known throughout the community. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Danville.
A native of Johnsonville, Ill., he was born Sept. 5, 1872, the son of Dr. William Moss and Mary Galbraith Johnson. He was a graduate of Marion-Sims Medical College, now a part of St. Louis University, and practiced in Johnsonville about 20 years before coming to Homer.
He married Laurena Pierce of Xenia, Ill., April 28, 1898, and she survives. Also surviving are a son, Robert Charles Johnson of Danville, four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
One son, Thomas P., preceded him in death last January.
