The cemetery sexton said the blank spot on the stone was for Charles' wife. However, when the couple divorced, Charles had her name sandblasted off and a note placed into cemetery records indicating that under no circumstances is she to be buried with him.

DOOLITTLE, CHARLES WILLIAM - Daily News, Greenville, MI - Friday, June 25, 1999
Crystal - Charles William Doolittle, 95, Greenville, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 1999.
He farmed most of his life in the Stanton and Edmore areas.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Irma Jenks and Dorothy Jean; two sons, Charles Edward and Robert William; one grandchild and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ila Dolloff and Minnie Barber; and two brothers, Marvin and Lawrence.
He is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Genevieve and Norman Healey of Lansing, Joann and Erwin Hansen of Elwell, Donna and Dennis Nayback of Lansing, Marilyn and the Rev. William Malone of Penfield, N.Y.; one son and daughter-in-law, Earl J. and Betty Doolittle of Carson City; 36 grandchildren, 82 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be July 2 at 7 p.m. at Pine Grove Church, Crystal. Interment will be in Ferris Center Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Chapel in the Pines Funeral Home, Lansing.
