Mr. Barnett was a native of Roan Mountain but had lived in Johnson City most of his life. Mr. Barnett was a son of the late Willie and Nora Jarrett Barnett.

He was a retired carpenter and a veteran of World War II. Mr. Barnett was a member of the Church of Jesus.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mariam Stanfield Barnett; two sons, Lawrence Barnett and Edward K. Barnett of Johnson City; two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Garvin of Johnson City, Mrs. Ann Hensley of Knoxville, one brother, John Barnett of Elizabethton; two sisters, Mrs. Maude Swartz of Chattanooga and Mrs. Carrie Swartz of Johnson City, Tennessee. *Source- The Johnson City Press, March 7, 1983
